Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky met US President Joe Biden at the White House. Biden announced that the United States would provide another $1.85 billion in military aid, including a Patriot missile defence system. The visit came as Ukraine continues to suffer near-continual Russian air attacks on its power grid during a bitterly cold winter. Congress is preparing to vote on an additional $44.9 billion in new military and economic assistance for Ukraine. But as the war passes the 300-day mark criticism from the Republican party’s right-wing is growing.
The United States has already sent more than $50 billion in aid to Ukraine this year. Ukrainian President Petro Zelensky said on Wednesday that US Vice President Joe Biden has endorsed his peace plan for Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader’s peace plan calls for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and the creation of a special tribunal to prosecute Russian war crimes. Russia has flatly rejected these conditions, and the Kremlin has said it sees no chance of peace talks with Kyiv.
