British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner said 97% of applicants for British student visas get visas. He said they had issued 23,500 student visas which doubled from the time he arrived in Pakistan three years ago. The outgoing high commissioner will cease to be the high commissioner to Pakistan this week. He has been recalled to serve in London as the foreign ministry’s under-secretary of state. He said he arrived as an ambassador and a long-term admirer of Pakistan but left as a friend.
Dr Turner said Pakistan did not get enough credit for what it had done to fight against terrorism. The high commissioner insisted on talking about the economy, human capital, climate change, and things that mattered. He said serving in Pakistan was the highlight of his career and some of the best moments were seeing the England team back to Pakistan for T20 and test matches.
